Yep our run of fun waves has kinda come to a close. Overall it’s pretty small, just about everywhere. It’s mostly clean and glassy, with a mix of some very minor southwest swell and a touch of west northwest swell. That recipe is making for some drained out sorta dumpy semi-wally lines, with a few fun ones. Look for things to improve once that tide turns around. Most OC beaches are running about knee to waist high, with the top spots pulling stomach high waves, with a few chest high sets. At six forty five this morning the tide drained out to a negative 0.1 low, which will have many spots hurtin for water mid morning. The tide then climbs back up to a 3.4 high at twelve fifty three this afternoon. If you’re gonna get wet, you can pull off a 3/2 full with the water temp averaging between 57 and 59 degrees. Have fun out there!! Snow Report 3-11-08March 11th, 2008, 6:04 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writerSCOPING THE SLOPES ON TUESDAY Well it’s time to enjoy the killer spring time conditions. And best of all, it’s mid week so those crowds should be pretty light. Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are looking at a 22 to 36 inch base. They’re both checking in with excellent spring conditions with machine groomed hard pack in the morning, that will turn slushy later in the day. Both resorts are operating a total of 26 lifts. Mountain High has a 2 to 4 foot base with similar conditions. It’s mostly a machine groomed surface, with up to 9 lifts. Mt. Baldy also has the spring time stuff. They’re sitting on a 2 to 4 foot base, with a machine groomed surface, and 4 lifts. Mammoth Mountain is checking in with a 9 to 12 foot base. They’ve got mostly firm machine groomed snow, with a few obstacles and 24 lifts. Load up the boards and the skis and get up there!! Hollywood Actor Starts Surf Inspired Clothing LineMarch 10th, 2008, 7:18 pm by Jeff Malanca, contributing writerOne of Hollywood’s A-list Stars is starting his own surf apparel line. Matthew McConaughey who’s often times photographed hanging at the beach or even riding waves has decided to design his own line of surf inspired clothing. It’s called j.k. livin, after his production company, “Just Keep Livin.” The clothing line will be made up of mostly T-shirts and surf trunks, with a few speciality items. The new line will be available summer 2008. To check out j.k. livin clothes go to www.matthewmccconaughey.com First ASP Junior Pro Wraps Up in FloridaMarch 10th, 2008, 5:26 pm by Jeff Malanca, contributing writerThe opening event of the 2008 ASP North America Pro Junior Series finished today at Sebastian Inlet in Florida. The Billabong Sebastian Inlet Pro Junior was won by Ventura’s Cory Arrambide. The final day of competition saw 2 to 3 foot short interval windswell, which made for some pretty some consistent surf for the competitors. Arrambide scored a 17.50 out of a possible 20 points in the final. Taking second was Evan Geiselman, third his brother Eric Geiselman, and fourth was Evan Thompson. Surf Report 3-10-08March 10th, 2008, 6:58 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writerGood Monday morning surf addicts…Well it’s looking pretty small and weak out there. Yep it’s probably a good day to make it to work on time. It’s mostly clean or light offshore with a mix of some minor southwest swell and a tad of northwest energy. That recipe is making for some crumbly sectiony lines, with a few fun corners, if you’re on a fish or a log. Most OC beaches are running about knee to waist high with the top spots pulling some stomach high waves, with maybe a few plus sets. At five forty eight this morning the tide drained out to a negative 0.1 low which will have some breaks hurtin for water early on. The tide then pushes up to a 4.1 high at eleven fifty two later this morning. It then drops once again to a 0.9 low at five twenty eight this evening. If you must get wet, you can probably pull off a 3/2 fullsuit, with the water temp hanging between 57 and 59 degrees. Good luck out there!! Snow Report 3-10-08March 10th, 2008, 5:58 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writerSCOPING THE SLOPES ON MONDAY Well if you don’t want to deal with the long lift lines, then get up there mid week. Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are checking in with a 2 to 3 foot base, with excellent coverage on the open runs. They’ve got great spring conditions, with machine groomed hard pack snow in the morning, that will soften later in the day. They’re operating a total of 26 lifts. Mountain High turned on the snow guns again last night. So they’ve got a nice fresh layer for you early risers. They’re sitting on a 2 to 4 foot base, with mostly a machine groomed surface, and up to 13 lifts. Mt. Baldy has more of the same, with a 2 to 4 foot base. Conditions there are mostly machine groomed, with 4 lifts in operation. Mammoth Mountain is checking in with a 9 to 12 foot base, with machine groomed packed powder, a few obstacles, and 24 lifts. Get up there and enjoy!! Surf Report 3-9-08March 9th, 2008, 8:48 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writerGood Sunday morning surf addicts…Well she’s looking kinda sleepy. Yep it’s getting smaller and smaller, but if you don’t care about much size you can pick off some playful waves at some of the better beachbreaks. It’s mostly clean with a mix of some minor southwest swell and a touch of west northwest energy. That recipe is making for some crumbly broken up lines, with a few workable sections, that’ll let your throw a turn or two. Most OC beaches are running about knee to waist high, with the top spots pulling stomach high waves, with a few inconsistent chest high plus sets. At eleven o two this morning the tide climbs up to a 4.8 high and then drops to a 0.3 low at four fifty nine this afternoon. If you’re gonna get wet, break out no more than a 4/3 full with the water temp averaging between 57 and 59 degrees. Good luck out there!! Snow Report 3-9-08March 9th, 2008, 8:34 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writerSCOPING THE SLOPES ON SUNDAY Well it looks like a repeat of yesterday… Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are both sitting on a 24 to 36 inch base. Conditions are mostly machine groomed hard packed, that will likely soften later in the day. They’re operating a total of 26 lifts. They’ve got both the East and West resorts open. Mt. Baldy is about the same. They’ve got a 2 to 4 foot base, with mostly machine groomed spring conditions and 4 lifts in operation. Mammoth Mountain still has plenty of snow, if you don’t mind doing a little driving. They’re sitting on a 9 to 12 foot base, with machine groomed packed powder, with a few obstacles.
